Team Canada trains with police recruits

Extraordinary training day for Team Canada last Monday: Four athletes of the Canadian ski jumping team took part in a joint training session with recruits of the Calgary Police Service.

During this session the ski jumpers did the same exercises as the young police officers, like pull-ups, push-ups and relay drills. “We focus mainly on sprinting and legs, and less on upper body. This was more collaborative and orientated for teamwork. It’s definitely been a good thing — it taught our team how to be more supportive, and we learned a lot from working with the recruits”, Taylor Henrich told the newspaper “Calgary Herald”.

“It’s giving them a sense of teamwork. Ski jumping is an individual sport, but you’re better as an individual when you’re part of a team, and we’re giving these guys a sense of what it’s like to be part of an amazing team”, Tom Reid, president of Ski Jumping Canada, is quoted on calgaryherald.com.

And the police recruits also benefit from this new kind of cooperation. “We do this three times throughout the six-month training period. It’s interesting to do it with other people”, Fraser Waldron of the Calgary Police explained.

Maze & Miller: To race or not to race, that's the question!

The tremendous rhythm of the Alpine World Cup Tour can exhaust some athletes and drive them to take some time off the slopes to focus on personal projects. Overall World Cup winners Tina Maze and Bode Miller did so, but without properly retiring, which lets the door open for an eventual comeback.

Slovenia’s Tina Maze won everything there is to win: Overall World Cup in 2012/2013 (with point record of 2414!), 4 World Champion Titles and 2 Olympic Champion Titles. So after 16 seasons at the highest level, she needed some time to rest and decided to take a year-off before deciding if she wants to continue ski racing. At the dawn of the 2016/17 season, no decision has been made yet. Maze didn’t mention plans to race regularly, but never excluded to participate in a race to say goodbye. In any case, it looks like the 33 year-old athlete is still training, both in the gym and on the skis, but no information filtered about the extent and the concrete goals of that training. It’s likely that we’ll know by the time the season starts in Sölden on 22nd of October.

Recently, American skiing legend Bode Miller got in a conflict with his former equipment sponsor Head USA. The 39 year-old Olympic and multiple World Champion announced that he would like to compete in this season’s World Cup and World Championships with Bomber Skis, the brand he inked partnerships in 2015. However, the contract he had with Head forces him to race on HEAD equipment in the 2016/17 season if he returns to the World Cup. Miller is officially nominated in the U.S. Alpine Ski Team and would therefore be entitled to participate in World Cup races. Hopefully a reasonable agreement can be found before the beginning of the season regarding the ski brand.

Marcus Kleveland at Perisher Parks – He makes it look too easy.

Marcus Kleveland is so young and so good. Barely at the age of legally being able to drive, Marcus wields his snowboard with the utmost precision, regardless if he’s overhead of cheesewedges or flipping of knuckles. Trick after trick, this time filmed by Boardworld at Perisher in Australia, Marcus’ riding is astounding, at once keeping you glued to each clip and wondering just what the ender will be that closes out the edit.

Jamie Lynn for Bent Metal Binding Works

For Immediate Release:
Seattle, WA

bentmetalbindings-jamielynn-transfer-news-sept16-630

Bent Metal Binding Works is proud to be collaborating with iconic snowboarder, artist and Mervin Manufacturing family member Jamie Lynn on the new Transfer binding! In many ways Jamie Lynn is freestyle snowboarding. His method, his frontside 360 and his cab spins set the bar impossibly high for style and technique from the mid 90’s to now. As of late this enigmatic legend is finding all new stoke and ways to push his skill set, still catching more air than anyone else off a bump from Baldface to Holy Bowly.

Working closely with the BMBW engineering and design team headed up by long time Mervin employee and on snow ripper Paul Ferrel, Jamie’s art, design and performance input on the Transfer model was instrumental. The all terrain Transfer features a medium flex high back with an asymmetrical wing for full support, light form ankle and toe straps, forged aluminum buckles, the revolutionary Cube forward lean adjuster and of course our signature Flex Control Drive Plate ablaze with Jamie art.

Made in Sequim, WA at Mervin Mfg, the Flex Control Drive plate acts as a miniature snowboard in your baseplate using hand laminated composite technology to bring different flex patterns to the binding itself. In the case of the Transfer it’s an aluminum/boron fiber modifier that helps to deliver an even and medium flex perfect for all conditions.

All the Transfer info and eye candy and anything else you could want is now live at bentmetal.com. Including (but not limited to); tech break downs, product info, insane action shots, original blog content, video testimonials and weekly BMBW athlete announcements. It’s a new lease on snowboarding for Jamie Lynn and Bent Metal Binding Works. Clean, reliable, stylish, strong and light with Mervin Made drive plates and a whole new batch of riders looking to Jamie for inspiration. The future looks rad, brother.

Eric Jackson for Bent Metal Binding Works!

For Immediate Release:
Seattle, WA

Bent Metal Binding Works is proud to officially announce elite free ride freestyle powerhouse Eric Jackson to the BMBW team! Starting out as Lib Tech’s child phenom Eric Jackson has turned into a bearded freestyle mountain whisperer the likes of which snowboarding has never seen. The park and pipe could only hold Mammoth’s favorite son for so long, eventually E-jack started casting his lure in to the more rapid waters of big mountain snowboarding.

Always bringing some of that Unbound energy and “little shit at Superpark” mentality with him, Eric is as likely to spin a natural 1080 or butter switch backside five as out run a sluff or navigate a pillow line. First known for a half decade of mental Standard Films video parts Eric has been on a non stop tear around the world in photo and film featured alongside (and as one of) snowboarding’s best. All culminating with this year’s starring role in Red Bull Media House’s “The Fourth Phase” with some of that soon to be blockbuster’s most memorable shots and hilarious moments.

E-jack brings his down home Crowley-banjo-bearded-fly fishing cheerfulness to the Bent Metal Binding Works team, eager to help us drive further innovation and bomb proof backcountry reliability on his preferred SOLUTION binding model and the entire line over. Check out Eric setting up his board and bindings, ripping some pow and talking shop in the video up now at the all new bentmetal.com.

mhssc16 – Diggers and Friends on Their Island

There’s a small place, tucked and hidden away but just a stone’s throw from the hussle and bussle of the mega camps of Mt. Hood. This place is Mt. Hood Summer Ski Camps, a sick park run by Rick Millett and Thomas Graham. Jack Reid, MHSSC Digger, aka Lord Farquaad on Vimeo, has been coming to this place since he was just a little guy. With a short stint at High Cascade back in the day, he chose to make MHSSC his summer time home and blessed us with this video of all the diggers and friends. There’s something heartwarming about this video.

P.S. Jack, the Fat Albert pants are fire, and Pete, keep biking.

Sam Anderson – Midwest Park Jibbing

This is the second time this song has been used in a heavy Midwest park edit, (from the collective minds over at Working For The City). Tribute, ode, or innocence, the video deserves a watch. Young Sam Anderson of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, is fun to watch and has some technical rail activity going on, spinning onto and out of things just a bit more than the rest.

The Passion of the Chuuch Teaser

Leif Draznin French has been putting together edits and full-lengths under the name CHUUCH since he moved to SLC in the winter of 2012. He has low-key and steadily putting out some of the sickest and heaviest content. CHUUCH doesn’t like to nickel and dime their audience, so every movie they make is free. Leading up to the Passion Of The Chuuch, there have been three full-length releases, Full Service, Chuurch, and If Ya Scared Go To Chuuch. Usual cast includes a crew of true SLC locals, underrated and unknown, along with some standout names. I’ve always been partial to Chickenbone myself. The teaser for “THE PASSION OF THE CHUUCH,” which includes zonked out Soundcloud rap, death-defying urban assaults, charity work, and a satisfying cast of riders is out now, and you should check it out, along with their other releases.
